21. The Maiden / The Maiden(少女)

"You may be Prince Genji's boy and I don't know what else, but you are only in the Sixth Rank, and have no right to meddle with such a little lady as this!"
Genji's son, Yugiri. He was kept in the Sixth Rank at his father's discretion. Courtiers less than fifth ranks can participate in the government . so Yugiri was insulted.
Summary
Genji's adopted daughter (Akikonomu) becomes the Empress. A political enemy minister (To no Chujo) wants his daughter (Kumoi) to be crown princess. But, she was secretly dating Genji's son (Yugiri). The minister is angry and takes his daughter away. Yugiri grieves parting with her. But, the Minister's servant separates the two and insults Yugiri's Rank.
Comment
Yugiri and Kumoi are like Romeo and Juliet. However, their fathers has a case too. What we didn't know when we were a kid, we know when we grow up. But parents don't know their children's feelings, and children don't know their parents' feelings.
