48. Fern-Shoots / Early Ferns(早蕨)
Passage
It seemed to her now that all the miseries and discomforts of the last few years had been as nothing compared with the torturing hazards and uncertainties of the unknown life upon which she was embarking. It was already well into the night when they arrived. The oxen were unyoked and the carriages drawn in past building after building of a splendor such as she had never pictured in any dream.
Kozeri arrived in Kyoto from Uji. Although she had left the place of sad memories, but she could not escape her sorrow.
Summary
Spring has come. From Uji's Monk, the late father's mentor, wild vegetables arrive at Kozeri. Niou moves Kozeri from Uji to mantion in Kyoto.
Kaoru, the guardian of Kozeri, frequently visits her mansion. Niou suspects the relationship between Kozeri and Kaoru.
Comment
Agemaki died, torn between her father's will between reality. It is similar to the tragedy of Hamlet.
Kozeri is conflicted between Niou and Kaoru.
