32. The Spray of Plum-Blossoms / A Branch of Plum(梅枝)

He soon came to the conclusion that these modern importations fell far behind what used to reach this country in former times, and opening his storehouses at the Nijō-in he brought out all the old Chinese perfumes he could find and had them carried to his New Palace. ‘With perfumes,’ he said, ‘it is just as it is with embroideries and woven brocades. The old ones are far better workmanship than anything that is turned out to-day.’

Summary
Mogi(ceremony of Initiation) of the Princess of Akashi is held. Genji prepared for his daughter. Tō no Chūjō worries about the future of his daughter Kumoi. Genji worries about the future of his son Yūgiri. Yūgiri and Kumoi are lovers, but due to the intentions of their respective parents, a misunderstanding occurs.

Mogi (ceremony of initiation) is a grand stage for noblewomen.Her parent prepared meticulously. It was a ceremony more significant and magnificent than a wedding at that time.
